Gardner Denver put in a combined total of twenty-five years of work at the North LaGrange Foundry during the course of his career there. After that, Rodney found employment at Titan Wheel, where he remained working until the year 2018, when he made the final decision to retire from his position there. He had a lot of experience with the many tools that are used in carpentry, and his passion was making things out of wood, especially pieces of furniture.

In his spare time, Rodney enjoyed getting his hands dirty and tackling a wide variety of building projects for the benefit of his friends and family. Putting in roofs and decks are only two examples of the kinds of projects that fall under this category. In addition to this, during his spare time he took great joy in restoring vintage automobiles, and he was a keen follower of all types of automotive displays. Rodney was a die-hard supporter of the professional baseball team based in St. Louis, which was known as the Cardinals. Rock music, in particular that which emerged in the 1950s, 1960s, and 1970s, was a genre that he listened to and appreciated in great depth.

When Rodney was a younger boy, he and a number of his friends used to perform in a band together. They all played drums, and it was a lot of fun for everyone involved. The couple’s four surviving children are Misty (Andy) Johnson of Durham, Missouri; Chad (Heather) Altgilbers of Quincy; Shawn Altgilbers of Quincy; and Nicole (Craig) Daly of Quincy. Misty (Andy) Johnson of Durham, Missouri; Chad (Heather) Altgilbers of Quincy; and Shawn Alt are his surviving children. In addition to his wife, Sheila, he is survived by his four children from a previous marriage.
