Nancy Melvina Obituary, Death – On February 16, 2023, Nancy Melvina Everhart, who was 77 years old and a resident of DeTour Village, Michigan, passed away at her home. On April 7th, 1945, she was welcomed into the world by her parents, William and Eva (Poe) Everhart, in Oak Ridge, Tennessee. Nancy was born in Oak Ridge, but her family shortly after relocated to Gratis, Ohio, where they settled on a small farm that Nancy’s father had purchased.
Nancy received her early education in Preble County, Ohio, and then went on to receive her bachelor’s degree in computer science from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio. She holds the distinction of being the first woman to earn this degree. Over the course of her career, she was employed by the NCR Corporation, the IBM Corporation, and AT&T. She tied the knot with William “Bill” Mordecai on May 10, 1986, in Basking Ridge, New Jersey, and the couple initially made their home in New Jersey before moving to Michigan when they reached retirement age.
Throughout the summer months, Nancy was responsible for the organization, planning, and execution of fine art events for the community in Detour. The United Methodist Church in Gratis, Ohio; the Basking Ridge Presbyterian Church in Basking Ridge, New Jersey; and the DeTour Union Presbyterian Church in DeTour Village, Michigan were all places of worship that Nancy often attended.
Fine art was something that Nancy was passionate about and she collected it. She was a fan of photography and enjoyed visiting art galleries and was always willing to assist local artists. She had three art galleries and performed the piano at each of her churches. Kansas City, Illinois, Basking Ridge, New Jersey, and Chicago, Illinois were the locations of her art galleries.
Bill, Nancy’s husband, and Jerry L. Everhart, who resides in Gratis, Ohio, are the only people who will remember her. Her parents, William and Eva Everhart, as well as her brother, William Everhart, all passed away before Nancy. Nancy was born and raised in Gratis, Ohio. On February 25, 2023, visitation will take place in the DeTour Union Presbyterian Church from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM, and services will take place immediately after visitation concludes.
Memorial contributions can be made to the DeTour Union Presbyterian Church, which is located at 166 Ontario Street in DeTour Village, Michigan 49725, or to Harbor View Senior Care, which is located at P.O. Box 123 in the same location.
